Akumi or Kooms for short is a 28kg Mastiff x Shar Pei mix, approximately 2 yrs old, with a calm and gentle nature, balanced with a touch of playfulness that makes him incredibly easy to live with.

After spending 4 weeks in the pound, Kooms initially presented as unsure and a little overwhelmed. With a short period of patience and consistency in foster care, he has settled beautifully and now shows a relaxed, stable temperament within a home environment.

Kooms is a low-maintenance, easygoing dog who enjoys a quieter lifestyle. He is not overly demanding and is content to lounge around the house, spend time near his people, and entertain himself with enrichment such as chew toys.

He has formed strong bonds with his carers and shows affection without being overly dependent. While he does enjoy following his chosen person around the home, he is also capable of settling, playing, and resting independently.

Kooms is social with a wide range of people, including men, women, and children, and approaches new interactions in a calm and respectful manner. He gets along well with both large and small dogs (male and female), with slower introductions recommended for larger dogs. Once comfortable, he interacts in a balanced and non-confrontational way and genuinely enjoys the company of other dogs.

Kooms has demonstrated exceptional compatibility with other species and is currently living peacefully alongside cats and a free-roaming rabbit. He shows no signs of prey drive, such as chasing or fixation, and instead coexists calmly within a multi-animal household.

He travels well in the car, adapts quickly to routine, and has recently shown an ability to be left alone for extended periods once settled. This makes him suitable for a full-time working household, provided he is given an appropriate adjustment period.

From a health perspective, Kooms is thriving on a fish-based diet and is considered a low to moderate maintenance dog.

Kooms could be placed as an only dog in the right home, however he has shown that he thrives in the presence of other animals. A home with a calm, confident female dog or even a cat would likely suit him best and support his continued confidence and wellbeing.

Kooms is recently desexed, microchipped, and up to date with flea and worming treatments.

He is now ready to transition into a permanent home where he can continue to enjoy the stability and companionship he has recently discovered.
